Frequently asked

Straight answers before you order.

Sizing, shipping, returns and warranty, written the way we would say it on the phone. If your question is not here, email us and we will add it.

01

Ordering and shipping

Where do you ship, and how much does it cost?

We ship throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Standard delivery is free on orders over $150. Below that, a single flat rate is calculated and displayed at checkout before you enter payment details, so nothing is added afterwards.

We do not currently ship outside the US. If you are abroad and want a pair, write to us first and we will tell you honestly whether we can arrange it.

How quickly will my order leave your warehouse?

In stock orders are packed and handed to the carrier within one to two business days, Monday to Friday, excluding US public holidays. You will get a confirmation email at purchase and a second email with tracking as soon as the parcel is scanned.

After dispatch, standard delivery usually takes three to seven business days depending on where you are. Those are carrier estimates rather than guarantees.

My tracking number has not updated. What now?

Give it one more business day first, because carriers often scan a parcel into their network late in the evening. If there is still no movement after that, email support@thefootwear.shop with your order number and we will open a trace with the carrier and keep you posted until it is resolved.

Can I change my address after ordering?

Usually yes, if you catch us before the label prints. Email or call as soon as you notice and we will amend it. Once a parcel is with the carrier we cannot redirect it, and we are not able to cover costs for parcels lost because of an incorrect address supplied at checkout.

02

Returns and warranty

What is your return window?

Twenty one days from the day your order is delivered. The pair must be unworn, with clean soles, and returned in its original box with any dust bags and paperwork. Try them on a carpet or rug rather than the sidewalk, because scuffed soles are the one thing we cannot accept back.

Start every return by emailing us first. We will send the return address and a reference number so your parcel is not refused when it arrives.

Who pays for return shipping?

If you are returning because the fit or style is not right, the return postage is yours, and please use a tracked service, since we can only refund what we actually receive. If the pair arrived faulty, damaged or simply was not what you ordered, we cover the return cost entirely.

When will my refund appear?

We inspect returns on arrival and email you the same day with the outcome. Approved refunds go back to the original payment method, and most banks post them within five to ten business days. Original outbound shipping is refunded only where the return was our fault.

What does the one year warranty actually cover?

For twelve months from delivery we cover manufacturing faults: stitching that comes undone, soles that separate, hardware that fails under normal wear. Send us your order number and a couple of photos and we will repair, replace or refund.

It does not cover ordinary wear, such as worn heels, creased uppers, scuffs, water marks, or damage from misuse. Leather changing colour and softening with age is the material doing its job, not a defect.

Do you do exchanges?

The quickest route is to return the pair you have for a refund and place a fresh order in the size you want, so your preferred size is not sitting unclaimed while a parcel travels. Tell us you are doing it and we will hold the replacement size for you where stock allows.

03

Fit and care

How do your shoes and boots fit?

Sizing runs by US men's sizes. [Confirm the fit guidance for each last, for example whether the loafers run true to size and the western boot runs a half size long, and publish it on each product page before launch.]

If you are between sizes or have a wide foot, email us your usual size and the brand you are comparing against and we will give you a straight recommendation, including telling you when we are not the right pair for you.

Will the leather stretch?

Full grain leather relaxes slightly across the width as it warms to your foot, but it will not gain length. A pair that is snug across the ball of the foot on day one will usually settle within a week or two of light wear. A pair that is short in the toe will stay short. Size for length, not hope.

How should I look after them?

Wipe off dust with a soft cloth after wear, use cedar trees if you have them, and give the pair a day off between wears so the lining can dry. Condition the leather a few times a year, and more often in dry climates. Keep them away from direct heat, because a radiator will crack an upper faster than a winter will.

When the sole wears thin, take them to a cobbler rather than replacing the pair. That is what the construction is for.

Are these new, and are they your own brand?

Every pair we ship is new, unworn stock sold under our own TheFootWear label. We do not sell used, refurbished or other companies' branded footwear, so what you see on the product page is what comes out of the box.

Payment and support

Which payment methods do you accept?

All the payment methods we support are listed at checkout, and that list is the accurate one. Payment is taken securely by our provider at the point of purchase and we never see or store your full card number. [Update this answer with the card brands and wallets you have enabled once your gateway is live.]

Is it safe to order here?

The site runs over an encrypted connection and card details are handled by our payment provider rather than by us. We use your details to fulfil the order and support you afterwards, and nothing is sold on. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

How do I reach a person?

Email support@thefootwear.shop or call 518-572-4489, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Messages that arrive overnight or at the weekend are answered on the next business day.

Do you sell in physical stores?

No, we sell only through this website. Our Plattsburgh address is an office and dispatch point rather than a showroom, so please email before coming by.

One question away

Ask before you buy. We would rather that than a return.

Tell us your usual size and what you will wear them with. We will tell you which pair fits the job, or that none of ours do.
